Guilty Pleasures: Serendipity’s Frrrozen Hot Chocolate

Editor’s Note: I am excited to share a new column with all of you called “Guilty Pleasures.”  In this column, our contributors will introduce you to an item or food that is one of their guilty pleasures.  I’m starting the series off with my all-time favorite guilty pleasure….

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My all-time favorite guilty pleasure is Serendipity‘s Frrrozen Hot Chocolate!  This amazing, chilled drink first came onto my radar in the 2001 movie “Serendipity” when Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack’s characters enjoyed a couple as they got to know each other.  I was in seventh grade when I saw the film with my friend Krista.  To my 13-year-old mind, the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate was the epitome of awesome.  I vowed to one day go to Serendipity and indulge in this delicious treat, projecting the same coolness factor that Kate Beckinsale’s Sarah did.
I moved to New York last August and one of the first places my roommate took me was to Serendipity for a Frrrozen Hot Chocolate.  It was a horribly hot day and we walked for what felt like miles to get uptown to Serendipity’s East 60th Street location and then waited outside for about 30 minutes until our table was ready.  We had originally planned to split one of these monstrous concoctions, but as I sat there with a parched mouth and sweat in every crevice, I eyed up my friend, remembering that she is the only person I know who can keep pace with my inhalation of desserts.  She eyed me with the same suspicion.  I don’t remember anymore who said it first, but one of us gently suggested that maybe we should each get our own.
Now, Serendipity is a place we go when we need a good life chat or to celebrate something fabulous in one of our lives.  I told my bestie that I was nervous to ever go to Serendipity with a date because he would probably want to split a Frrrozen Hot Chocolate because that’s sweet and stuff, but if I’m getting one of these delicious drinks I want my own!  When is it too soon to show a potential mate your ability to down a dessert that is bigger than your head?
        ahh good to know (and thanks for the tip!) I wasn’t able to fit it in on that trip, but hopefully I can go back again (sooner than later) and make it there!
