Can we go thrift shopping?
I have a deep love of thrift shopping that stems back to high school! I love bargains and quirkiness, so finding items for both my wardrobe and home that come from thrift shops and consignment stores are a must.
With the recent release from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, I am glad that thrift shops are finally enjoying some mainstream recognition! Haha!
One of my favorite shops is Carousel Consignments in downtown Janesville, Wisconsin. This store is two stories filled with just about anything you can think of! I have been visiting their shop since I was in high school and it has never disappointed.
Here are my latest finds for my kitchen/dining area:
- Drinking Glass Set
- Flower Bowl
- Oil Painting
- Ceramic Mugs
- Salt and Pepper Shakers
- Flower Pot
In my bedroom, I am still searching for a vanity, but I found a few items that will go perfectly on it!
I am moving in a few weeks, so I will be sharing more thrift shop finds as I settle into my new place! Have you found anything exciting lately?

Day Three: Flower Photo
So yesterday was Day Three of my 365 Create Something! Anything! Challenge. It certainly was not my most creative day.
Yesterday was a day where I made two huge life choices. By the time I made it home and from a volunteer event, I camped out in bed without much energy to do anything else.
Though between work and my volunteer event, I did take myself out for Chinese food to celebrate in a sense, the decisions I made of the day and the next chapter of my life. While waiting for my food, I staged and took a photo of three flowers on the table.
So here is my Flower Photo, Day Three’s creation:
Here is the tweet to prove I took this yesterday afternoon:

Day Two: My Memory Jar
I bought the jars to make memory jars after coming across the idea on Pinterest. That was about three months ago… So, I decided to finally tackle this project for Day Two of my “Create Something! Anything!” challenge.
Essentially, I made a big ‘ol pink glittery mess:
I sprayed the whole thing with AquaNet after I added the glitter with Mod Podge, so that should hopefully seal in the glitter.
Now I have little pieces of paper cut up that I will write all the good memories from 2013, then I can place the papers in the jar and read it whenever I need a pick-me-up. Reading all of the memories will be a great way to ring in 2014!

Create something! Anything! Just create!
You may have noticed we’ve shared no new content with you in five months. As I’m sure many of you can relate to, life happened. I could provide you with a long update detailing what has been going on in my life over these five months, but I would rather jump right in with a new post for you and share a new project!
Feeling in a creative rut and a life rut lately, I’ve been searching for something new to try that would help me tap into my inspiration, creativity, and passion again. I’ve read Noah Scalin’s Make Something 365 blog on and off over the past year and have debated whether or not I should buy his book Unstuck: 52 Ways to Get (and Keep) Your Creativity Flowing at Home, at Work, & In Your Studio.
Today I finally committed to giving his concept of creating something everyday for a year a try. If you take a gander at his blog, you will see numerous examples of projects other creatives have taken on and interviews with them as they explain what drew them to their specific project.
I have opted to keep mine pretty simple. Why? Partially because (as you may have noticed due to a five month gap in posting…) I sometimes struggle with staying committed to side projects on a long-term basis. Additionally, I am still just getting started as an expressive creative, so I want to give myself the opportunity to pursue whatever creative outlet seems appealing to me each day.
So what am I doing?
Each day I will share with you something I’ve created. I may share a full tutorial, like we’ve done previously on this site. I may share a picture and an explanation of what I did and why. Or I may just share a picture. The point is for me to create something– anything– daily and to share it with you.
My hope is that you will find this project inspiring enough that you will start creating or even take on your own 365 challenge.
Now let’s get down the first creation!
Day 1: Vision Journal
I am a visual person, so naturally I love visualizing and vision boards. Additionally, I love affirmations, thought-provoking questions, and positive quotes. As I was going through a box of stuff that I have yet to unpack from NYC, I came across an old journal that I bought from Anthology in Madison, Wisconsin. The journal is an upcycled book, filled with some of the book’s old pages and then several blank white pages.
I am filling the book with a mixture of positive quotes, affirmations, thought-provoking questions, pictures of things that make me happy, and images to use for visualizing what I want from life.

The Dog Days Are…Just Beginning?
This has been one heck of a couple of weeks! I’ve had so many big plans for projects: new jewelry, Finnish recipe, making Lucky Charms from scratch in response to learning they contain cancer-causing elements (I know, everything does).
BUT, the last two weeks for me have been dogs, dogs, and nothing but dogs.
I took the CPDT-KA exam yesterday morning, the one I’ve been wanting to take for two years and have been studying several months for. Long story short I’ll just have to wait and see, it takes up to 8 weeks to get the results and I’m really not confident one way or another. It was a really disappointing situation for me when about 80 questions in to the total 250 I realized there was a lot of material on the test that I didn’t know to study. Some stuff I’ve never even heard of. I felt deflated.
I’ve never really known how to study, a mixture of diagnosed ADHD and nervous anxiety have always kept me from reading more than three pages of anything at a time before losing focus, but this test was different than school. This was something that no one was making me do – I wanted this for me – and I am proud of how I studied, read, took notes, researched, etc.
I’m not going to lie, I moped around a lot yesterday, cried a little, napped a lot. But that’s okay, it’s what I was feeling. Maybe two months from now I’ll get a notice in the mail saying I passed! Either way, I took notes on the terms and concepts I wasn’t familiar with on the test and I’m just going to keep studying. After my naps I realized it shows a lot more character to buck up and take the test again next year if I need to rather than give up. My husband helped me get to that conclusion, he’s pretty great
To keep my momentum up Kyle and I took our pup Gavin to a beginner agility course a coworker of mine started today. It’s in no way AKC related and is mostly just for fun, but we all had a blast! The pictures are kind of blurry because they’re “action shots” and I have to make sure to give photo cred to my husband, because he told me to. And because he took the photos, hehe.
I’m so proud of how Gavin ran through the tunnel, he was the only dog in the class of four that had never used one before!
You can get excited about just about anything and he’ll get excited too, haha!
He’s going to sleep good tonight!!
Kyle and I went to Orange Leaf after class and then watched the Packers kick some Chicago butt. Not bad. Not bad at all.
What kind of fun things do you do with your pets?
